I was reading this about Traci Bingham, and it got me thinking about how often I've heard this said about certain minorities. What does this mean to you when someone says a minority thinks they're white? What characteristics makes one assume this? Can a minority really think that in this world?

I think it's really sad that people can not accept who they are. I'm not even talking about color. Where you are raised and how your parents raised you determines who you are. Too many poeple what to say that because of a persons race they are more apt to ________. If it's not medical, it's a load of bull. Grant it, the world is racist and sees things in color. Thats what angers me- espcially against my own race -> whites.
My boyfriend's mother came in as an immigrant from Mexico. SHe worked the field up north but still had a desire to do better. She learned english and now is a private account manager of multi-million dollar accounts. No one told her she could not and SHE DEFIED SO-CALLED MINORITY ODDS. There has to be a desire and then the desire has to be acted upon.
So, I guess characteristics are of a person and not their ethnic groups. It all depends on how you are raised and what your desire to be is. A desire to be trailer trash will always be trailer trash. There must be a desire to do better. . .

It does not mean that a minority wants to be white. This expression refers to how one acts or interests one has.Like in your example they mean that she likes things that are typically associated w/white people and that most of her friends are white. By her having these characteristics lead some black people to consider that she "acts white or thinks she is white".It's the same as saying that a white person thinks he/she is black.He/she associate himself/herself w/things that are typically associated to black people and hangout mainly with black people. But honestly there is no one way of acting that is associated to one particular race.People like to classify each other and shouldn't.I think that no matter what a person likes or has as interests defines his/her race.It just defines him/her as a person and just b/c he/she does not do what people associate w/that race doesn't meant that they are not apart of that race.
