i was just wondering because i love papa john's pizza, but i just recently learned that some cheeses have enzymes made from animal shortening which muslims are not allowed to eat. So i was wondering if anyone knows for a fact if it's halal or not. if you don't know then, there's not point in writing something random and so out there! alright?! plus, are all cheetos made from animal shortening, also? i love cheetos!!!!

"PAPA JOHN'S: They state that neither their pizza dough nor sauce contains animal products. Their cheese is made with a biosynthesized enzyme called Chymax®. They are able to prepare meatless pizzas. Their pizza items are not fried. Their meatless pizzas are cooked in the same ovens as other non-vegetarian pizzas. Their Parmesan cheese shaker and cheese dipping sauce contain animal derived enzymes. Neither their thin crust nor original dough contains animal shortening or lard." - http://www.vrg.org/nutshell/fast.htm

I hope that helps.

You can read the Cheetos package for that information, but Papa Johns has several distributors and you would have to contact your local restaurant about their cheeses. However, unless ANY store is run by a Muslim who uses halal products and cleaning techniques, most likely all their pizzas are not halal. Sometimes they do not wash their pizza pans inbetween new orders and its probable a pizza with a pork product was cooked and contaminated the pan before yours.

Call and ask if it's kosher - most people are more familiar with that term. And look for the kosher (parve) mark on crackers and snack food. In general, if it's not kosher, it isn't halal either. A kosher mark can be a "K" or a "U" inside a circle, or it can be in Hebrew characters. Triscuits have the "U" in a circle right after the weight statement, so they are also halal, but I don't know about Cheetos.

Added - I found this website, which might be of interest, but I also found a reference to "Kosher Cheetos." http://halalproducts.wordpress.com/

well i think, like all fast food shops they should have a certificate showing that their food is halal. That's what i do.

as long as its cheese/veggie but be careful about the pizza slicer..they use the same one for pepperoni/chicken pizzas and it usualy touches the meat....just tell them to not cut it and that you will do it yourself :) Assalamu Alaikum
