Why Government Works for The Government And Not The People?
Every year at tax time I try to figure this out and I just get upset. We work year after year and pay taxes, social security, etc. To get full benefits,we can't retire till 65 plus to receive them.High ranking government officals can be elected to office for a term, retire at full salary, benefits, and anything else they need no matter what age.You do the math.I've worked since age 14 and i'm now 58,that 44 years of paying social security, taxes or whatever. Its not my place to pay for everyone else.I feel if you work 20 years, you should be able to draw for 20 years.I would like to enjoy life a little before I die.The way it's set up now,by the time you can retire you don't have much time to enjoy.Could someone please explain to me so I can better understand why it's this way.
A VERY CONCERNED TRUE AMERICAN

Someone sent this to me and I agree....My dad worked for the WPA.........he said, what they did was, one guy would dig the hole and the other one filled it up!

How the Government Works

Once upon a time the government had a scrap yard in the middle
of a desert. Congress said," Someone may steal it at night."
So they created a night watchman position and hired a person
at $18,000.00 a year for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job
without instruction?" So they created a planning department
and hired two people -- one person to write the instructions
for $22,000.00 and one person to do time studies
for an additional $22,000.00 per year.

Then congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is
doing the tasks correctly?" So they created a
quality control department and hired two people.
One was to do the studies for $31,000.00
and one to write the reports for an additional $31,000,00 per year.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?"
So they created the following positions:
a time keeper for a $35,000.00 annual salary
and a payroll officer for an additional $35,000.00
Then they created an administrative section and hired
three more people -- an Administrative Officer at $155,000.00
per year, an Assistant Administrative Officer at $125,000.00
and a Legal Secretary at $100,000.00 per year.

Then Congress said, "We have had this operating for one year
with a budget cost of $574,000.00
and we are $18,000.00 over budget.
We must cut back costs."

SO THEY LAID OFF THE NIGHT WATCHMAN

Americans, sadly enough, have become lazy, apathetic, and disaffected with regard to their fundamental responsibilities of citizenship. For starters, how many do you think have any kind of clue as to what the Declaration of Independence was all about and what the issues were that forced the colonists to sever ties with Great Britain? To them, "July 4th" is nothing other than "National Picnic, Barbecue, and Fireworks Day." Sad,

President Washington, our so-called National Father, in his once-famous Farewell Address warned us "in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the Spirit of Party," Very few Americans are even remotely familiar with our Founding Father's final words to the American people for all posterity--PARTICULARLY the sitting president and his immediate predecessors.

The Republicans and Democrats are more concerned about being one up over the other and keeping US and the international community divided than to care about the average citizen and, in his words; "Observe good faith & justice towards all Nations. Cultivate peace & harmony with all."

But, hey, the more enemies the US can make, the better it is for business of the defense industry that President Eisenhower warned us about in his Farewell Address; "The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist."

Let's face it, most people hate politics and politicians -- "because they're all crooks." With that attitude of resignation the crooks are able to do as they please since nobody's really watching them because they're too busy worrying about who won the game or Paris Hilton's latset sex-capades to even care enough to contact their Members of Congress. Sad.

Every "concerned true American" should be intimately familiar with the words of these great patriots who served this nation so selflessly and courageously.

God SAVE America!! Too late to pray for simple blessings.

p/s I initially intended answering this by mentioning some of the neccessary things like transportation infrastructure, schools, parks, libraries, national defense, courts of law, public works and safety, environmental protection, air traffic control, wildlife management, public heatlh and welfare, etc... but I felt I had to rise and speak up for a bunch of "dead white men" because even though their bodies are dead their spirits live on---and they're pretty upset about things.

no idea. I think it sucks that the government doesnt think of the people at all. Prime example, Bush. the poles tell him, his advisors tell him, his people tell him, common sence tells him! and yet he wont do anything to satisfy the masses need for change. they have to stop covering thier own asses and step out of thier little corner, and listen to the people that pay thier salaries.

You think TOO much.
Democrats hate people like you.
(But I thank you for your great question.)

We had a chance to save our Soc Sec with Bush's plan to privatize part of it. We would have made good money, and got it all back FOR OURSELVES. But the Democrats & the AARP got it stopped.
