Two enterpretations

1) I have prevously visited LA where I was almost famous for some hours. More recently I nearly moved to LA.

2) it is hypothetical, If I had moved to LA (which I almost did) I would have been almost famous for almost a day.

I prefer explanation 2, and of course poems and lyrics should use phrases that sound good as more than make sense

It's a satirical comment on the nature of celebrity and all those people who say "if only I had done this, that or the other, then that, this or the other would've occurred..."
Since Los Angeles is the "center of the world" as far as celebrity is concerned, then one would need to go there to become "famous". What is celebrity anyway? Famous for what?
Not only does the phrase make sense, it makes me smile.

Yes, it makes sense to me. It means that he should have done all these things instead of just thinking about them. You know kinda like those commercials where there like " This child almost had a warm place to sleep, or this child almost had dinner last night. You almost make a donation last night but you didn't"
So on and So on.

See, the thing I think about that song is that it's all about someone who just one thing happened to them that changed everything. I don't remember the line before that, but i think it's something about the chick and that if he would have had her then he would have had all this stuff happen to him. I think it's the thing, you know, all things are connected. So if one thing changes, the whole thing is completely different. I don't know, that's just my take on it.
