To my knowledge, there isn't a natural process that will cause the earth to explode.
If you mean "utterly destroy the earth" I believe that the outer layers of the sun will absolutely incinerate the earth when it expands into a red giant, several billion years from now.

scientists believe that the earth will never explode because the sun will envelope the planet as it becomes a red giant in around five billion years.
however, the earth could explode at any moment
the ancient mayans, who were never wrong in their predictions, predicted that the end of the world was going to be in the year 2012. but there are theories that the mayans thought would be 2012 is a different year.

Well right now our star is at its halfway point. Its been burning for roughly 4.5 billion years, and has about that same amount of time left.
But, it is a possibility that a free ranging planetoid the size of the moon could strike earth and destroy it. And if you want to see what exactly this would look like, look up the satelite 'miranda' orbiting uranus. (Its a very beautitul satelite by the way)

Well, that's actually a good question . . . . all you have to do is ask the rogue nations acquiring nuclear weapons when they want to go to war with the western powers . . . they almost always want to.
My guess is that this is the generation that will see total nuclear war and the end of the current form of human civilization, and that's when the earth will explode, figuratively of course. We're a hell of a species.
