well i don't think it means that the person is "due" for something good to happen although it might sometimes feel that way. bad things do tend to roller coaster/domino effect and one will lead to another; but good things can do the same thing, so once that next good thing come along if one is optimistic for another and another, a person can have a string of good things as well.

I have had a lot of bad things happen in my life too. But I look at it like, if bad things didnt happen, how would we know when good things happen. Good things do and will happen, unfortunately you also have to deal with the bad. There is no rime or reason for it. That is just the way it is.

Its hard to say. In my life I've had times when I felt tested. Trial after trial after trial. For the last two years this has been the way for my fiance and I. We have struggled and fought our way through everything.

What she and I have is something wonderful (both of us coming from failed marriages) so we feel like our relationship, our very sanity, is tested over and over. In the end, we are closer, stronger and more in love than ever. A fair trade? I think so and we couldn't change a thing.

Sometimes bad things happen to good people and theres no reason for it. Sometimes, life gives you signs that you are on the right track or the wrong track. You need to evaluate whether these bad things that happen are tests of your character, love, faith, etc... or are they signs that you aren't doing what you're supposed to be. Are there feelings of guilt attached to whats going on in your life? Or are you strong and stedfast in the decisions you've made. Only you can judge but open your eyes, your heart and your mind to the world around you and look at the signs.

Good Luck

Yes, but not because bad things happen. Good and bad, happy and sad, all dualities come and go in the natural course of life. We can understand that when we are happy, eventually something happens and we will become sad for a time, and then we become happy again. The same things occur over and over in our lives. People often expect to be happy all of the time, or when sad, believe that they will never be happy again. The same thing happens when something bad happens. Be assured, something good will happen in due course, because nothing lasts forever in this world. Not the good times, or the bad times. Not happiness, or distress.

Unfortunately, no. Thinking that you are "due" for something good because a lot of bad things have happened recently is an instance of what we call the "gambler's fallacy." If you toss a coin and it turns up heads 10 times in a row, it is no more likely to turn up tails on the eleventh throw; odds are still 50/50...

...unless, of course, you have a weigthed coin in which case you might want to switch coins. Likewise, as someone already suggested, if bad things keep happening to you too often, you might want to re-examine your life.

Since this was filed in philosophy: how do you define a good thing or a bad thing? Sometimes what seems bad turns out to be beneficial later, and what seems good goes awry.

My personal opinion is that there's no such thing as an entirely good or entirely bad situation.

This question is listed under Philosophy. It should be listed under fortune telling. Who knows? If lots of bad things are happening, I'd question my way of life.
