Gillian, first, this isn't exactly a "history" question, unless you are trying to include your family's personal history. Second, at least from the information in your question, your learning that your late husband had an affair in Brazil does not imply that he also had a Brazilian bank account. Third, unless the lawyer who probated his will is willing to take this on, there is almost no chance that you will be able to, first, locate such an account (there are a LOT of banks in Rio!), or, second, convince them to open the records of a former account to you. And fourth and finally, if your husband was paying a prostitute, vice having an affair, it's unlikely to show up in his bank account-- I believe, although I have no personal experience, that such professionals usually insist on being paid in cash.
I'm sorry that you've learned that your husband betrayed you, and that you learned it after his death. I fear that the direction you're going in will not lead to healing, but to further frustration and pain. Rather than taking on the world of international banking (and Brazil has strong privacy and extradition laws), you might do better to talk to your priest or minister, or to a professional counselor, about ways of putting this pain and betrayal behind you so you can go on with your life.

Sorry to hear that, but what's your question? You want to know how to get your late husband's bank account number?
