Where do you live and what is life like where you are? Weather conditions...financial cost of living...culture...etc. I've always wondered what it's like to live on the other side of the pond. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I'm an American and live in Europe. I lived in the Czech Republic for 6 years and have now lived in Latvia for 2 years. I love both of them

Latvia is usually cold in the winter, though this year we have had about 2 days of snow. It's dark in the winter, really dark and really light in the summer, with about 20 hours of daylight. It's not cheap, as you might expect being part of the former Soviet Union, but it's not that bad. Some say it's comparable to England overall. It's a "cold culture" meaning people are not overly friendly at first or open, but once you show them that you really want to get to know them they open up. Latvians are awesome!

I like living in a foreign country. It's an adventure. Sure there are drawbacks... like I realised recently that I've been trying to learn some foreign language for 10 years... not just for the heck of it, but to survive! It's hard not being around family (which for some people is not a bad thing) but I've had so many awesome experiences that I never would have had if I lived in America. I love it. :) It's also awesome to be able to travel to yet another country so easily and quickly. In 8 hours I can be 2 countries away from here!

I have friends and family that live in Europe and it depends which part of Europe you wish to live. My friends in Switzerland find the area beautiful but the people aren't terribly friendly. Family in Sweden love the nature and culture but sometimes the weather and darkness in winter are depressing. The dollar is weak right now, so it is becoming more and more expensive to live in Europe. For a short- term cultural experience and if you have the opportunity to live there, take it. You really need to form your own opinion of life over there.

Many parts of Europe are interesting, charming, livable, etc., but after spending 7 years in Italy (Rome), I would not recommend that country to anyone. The bureaucracy is horrendous, customer service does not exist, the people are nosy, rude and obnoxious, they drive like idiots, toss their litter everywhere and are generally very stupid. It is a nice place to visit, however; Sardinia is stupendous. Despite all the hype, Tuscany is perhaps one of the least interesting regions of Italy.
