1) check that the hold button is not set to hold.
2) charge the nano
3) hook it up to the computer as if you were going to add songs
4) add a song or two (this forces it to interact with an input source--the computer--so that the nano is ready for input
5) disconnect when it says to do so
6) try it again. I've found that the hold button may need repeated attempts to get it to unhold, such as switching it back and forth a few times. If your nano gets beat up like mine, this may be all that is required.

take it in to like Best Buy or somwhere like that
