well i went for my obsetrition appt today and she told me that im 31 weeks and gonna be 8 months in two days. and she said she knows this cuz my due date is march 12th. i know theres 9 months in a pregnancy altho my first born was 13 days late. so im thinking that if i am 8 months then theres only a month left till the baby comes which is 4 weeks, but 4 weeks would mean the middle of feburary....can anyone figure this out?

you are pregnant for 40 weeks actually, and that would be equal to 9 1/2 months..... It sounds weird but it is true...

You'll be in your 8th month of pregnancy but wont be 8 months until the end of the month. Most women give birth when they are 9 months and a couple weeks. there will be some women on here that tell you your pregnant for 10 months... not true at all. You dont change the meaning of a month just because you are pregnant. A month is Jan 1st to Feb 1st and so on not every 4 weeks. Except when refering to Lunar months which we dont normally use. When a child is born you go by calendar months as you should with pregnancy. I'll break it down for you.

If your due date is March 12th the last day of your first period was most likely June 5th.

June 5th to July 5th - 1 month
July 5th - Aug 5th - 2 months
Aug 5th - Sept 5th - 3 months
Sept 5th - Oct 5th - 4 months
Oct 5th - Nov 5th - 5 months
Nov 5th - Dec 5th - 6 months
Dec 5th - Jan 5th - 7 months
Jan 5th - Feb 5th - 8 months
Feb 5th - March 5th - 9 months

You'll see that for January you'll be in your 8th month but wont be 8 months until Feb 5th. Some people say you go by weeks but Im pregnant with my third child and have never had a doctor that goes by 4 week months. They always go by weeks and dont even mention what month I am in.

I hope this helps. Its confusing I know but doesnt really mean a lot. When people ask you how far along you are just go by weeks if makes it easier. Congrats and Take Care.

Think about a pregnancy going til the end of 9 months. Gestation is about a 40 week period which can be broken down into 10 4-week months. Since actual calendar months are 30-31 days, that accounts for the confusion. The 31 weeks/8 months part is correct. Hope it helps.

4 weeks only works with lunar months. You are pregnant for 10 lunar months. It's only 9 calendar months.

Technically you're 8 lunar months pregnant at 32 weeks. But not 8 calendar months pregnant til 12 February, cause calendar months are ~ 1 week longer than a lunar month which is only 4 weeks.

You're OB is just retarded.

same thing works for babies ages. My son was born 2 October, so he's a new month older on every 2nd. He wasn't 3 months old til 2 January when was was 13 weeks (and some days) old. By lunar months he would've been 3 months at 12 weeks.

Hope this makes at least a little sense, it's pretty confusion stuff.

Good Luck

In the middle of feb would be the beginning of your 9th month, 4 weeks from that you'll be at a full 40 weeks. If you counted on your fingers by four until you got to 9 you would only come up with 36

The "month" that your doctor refurse to is only a 4 week period, not a full month. A full term pregnacy is 10 of there months.

I was confused too and asked my doctor
