What is the answer of 2 - (-2)?

What is the answer of 2 - (-2)? Please so I can answer my husband/daughter! There is a great debate/divide going on because of this problem.

4 because it's the same as 2 -1(-2). You distribute the -1 into the parentheses so it reads 2 (-1x-2), then it is 2 (2) since two negatives cancel out a to become a positive when multiplying. Then 2x2 equals 4.
