A line formula is can be rearranged to the form y = mx + c where m is the gradient and c is the y-value at x = 0. If this c value is 0 ( y = mx), the line does pass through (0,0) - the origin

If the equation is in standard form
(Ax + By = C), it passes through the origin if C = 0.
Ax + By = 0.
If the equation is in slope-intercept form
(y = mx + b), it passes through the origin if b = 0.
y = mx + 0, or
y = mx.
In either case, a line will pass through the origin if the equation only has an x term and a y term, with no constants being added other than zero.

The general form for slopes of an equation is the first derivative (using calculus) of that equation.If you already have the first derivative then yes the answer is:
set x = 0
calculate y from the formula
if y == 0 then yes it passes through the origin.

Another easy way to tell would be to look at the equation in its y= form. If there is no constant after expanding, then the equation passes through the origin.

Linear equations? If in y = ax + b form, it goes through the origin when b=0.
If in ax + by = c form, it goes through the origin when c = 0.
For other equations, if f(0) = 0, then it clearly goes through the origin.

for just a line in the equation form
y = mx + b where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept
The line will only intersect the origin if the value of b is 0.
If you equation is given to you in another form, try to move it to the form above to see

easy. If you have an equation, like
Ax+By=C
Stick in 0 for x. If that gives you a value of 0 for y, then the line passes through the origin.
(IE, if C=0).

YOu set x and y to 0 and see if both sides turn out the same (ex. 25=25)
