With its bright sandy beaches, leaping mountains and picturesque harbour, it's no wonder that Rio de Janeiro is recognized as the "cidade maravilhosa", or marvellous town and with hotelbye you can get the possibility and visit this particular city. Rio de Janeiro is facing the South Atlantic coast and is the second-largest city in Brazil. That town is lucky with one of the very most lovely organic options for a area in the world. The impressive landscape is one of the causes that guests chose Rio de Janeiro. All through carnival season, a festival that everyone seen, the streets fill with music and ornately costumed dancers attracting tourists from all around the globe.

Go to Yahoo! News and type in violence in rio, and draw your own conclusions. There are more killings in Rio than in Iraq.
Of course people who live there think being shot at on the way to work, or witnessing a robbery in the street are normal everyday things, because they don't know any better than that.
On the other hand, most tourists go back home safe, like most soldiers who go to Iraq come back home safe, if you consider pure statistics, but honestly, why put yourself in that situation?
However, a new governor just took office on the first of the year, and he looks pretty serious about solving the problem of violence in Rio. He started by transferring some of the most dangerous criminals who controlled organized crime from inside prison to different States. I think things may get better in a few months.
Also, Rio will be hosting the Pan American Games in July, so security is sure to be tightened then.
Good luck!

No different than New York City, just blend in, don't wear jewelry, don't stand out as a tourist and carry your money close to you, try not to use a pocketbook/wallet better yet, put your money in your front pocket, and just be aware of your surroundings, just as you would in any major city....you will have the time of your life, the night life, the beaches, the music, and most of all the friendliest and liveliest people you will ever meet. Enjoy your trip and all the natural beauty Rio de Janeiro has to offer.

well, i won't say that isn´t danger but it's not if you are in the middle of a civil war, I spend some time in Rio, just got back. I didn't saw that much danger, but happens. All big cities have a trouble with violence, you just have to know what to do, and don't call any attention, sometimes its just so easy to know who is a outsider. If you choose to go, will be a travel that you will never forget. Rio de Janeiro is a beautifull city and every place you look will find a beautifull place to look... i just never got tired of looking into the window of my room, just a wonderfull place to enjoy and please don't forget the carnaval. that's it.

Rio is a eye-catching city and definetely properly worth travelling (regardless of the incontrovertible fact that i could be a sprint biased, on account that that's the place my kinfolk is from). Like the diverse previous answerers mentioned, Rio is like many different super cities interior the international. indexed right here are some regulations: you do not elect to be conspicuous. one way or yet another, any Brazilian can spot a vacationer from miles away, so which you will desire to word of how you gown. do not positioned on huge watches, new Nike shoes, flashy clothing, your digital camera around your neck, or something that would have any fee interior the black marketplace. additionally, avert questioning around aimlessly. in case you do not understand the place you're going, you're a chief objective. discover out formerly-hand how lots issues would desire to cost on familiar (taxi cabs, a lager, etc.), so which you don't get ripped off. between the main severe issues (that's limited to Rio) is that, ordinarily of thumb, avert going uphill. i understand this sounds humorous, however the hills are the place lots of the favelas (slums) are placed. Have an area instruction manual you around whenever you may. That being mentioned, in case you're conscious of your environment and are careful, you will desire to be ok. Oh, and be arranged for sizzling wheather. yet convey a pair of sweaters in simple terms in case. I heard the climate has been a sprint loopy. you apart from mght under no circumstances understand, you will desire to wind up going someplace less warm.

Its no more dangerous or safer than any other city. Try to blend and not look like a tourist. Leave your valuables (locked) at the hotel and go out with just enough money for the day. Dress casual like most Brazilians do. Dont hang a camera around your neck. Avoid bags and purses. Carry your money on you. Stay away from crowds and move off if you are crowded or jostled. If you go to the beach then take the minimum in cash on you. Dont stay in cheap cheap hotels.

I have a trip scheduled for the first week in March. From what I have been told, one might wanna stay strictly in the tourist areas - the areas near both beaches and hotels.
If you wonder from same, you are putting your life in jeopardy!
By the way, what kind of rate did you get? I got a roundtrip from Miami at $499 ($630 with the taxes)!
