just got the new Ipod shuffle but I'm not sure it works properly. how can I tell? there is an orange lite on

when I plug it into my laptop to charge it there is a orange light on but when i press the play button when it is off the charger it blinks green once then orange. is it broken or is it because there are no songs on it?

I had alot of trouble figuring out my wife's Ipod shuffle when she got it too.
When it is plugged into the computer , the light automatically changes to orange, it's in charge mode. My wife says that changing from green to orange, means that it hasn't powered up and that the Ipod is blank. She says that when you start downloading you will find that the light blinks orange, but will turn green when the download is complete and off the charger.

Have you read your mannual ? It sometimes means that it may not be in properly. Mine does that too but once it is done uploading the songs it will go away. But I was wondering if you know a way of keeping the little red light to stay away for a longer time.
