It wouldn't really matter to me..i've had both and they were both equally qualified. When your gyno is a male, they usually make a female nurse remain in the room with him during the examination anyway, so really I have no preference as long as they know what they are doing.

Definitely a female doctor! I don't care how long I'd have to wait for an appointment, something about male Ob/gyn doctors freak me out.
I had a pap appointment at Planned Parenthood a few years ago, which was supposed to be with a female, but when I got there, they had changed my doctor to a male. I almost started to cry (don't know why!) and had them put me down for another day.
My rationale is, female doctors can sympathize and relate to you from their own experience. It's easy for men to say, "This won't hurt a bit," but a woman doctor can give you the real deal.
And to the tiny d*cked "man" who said women "should stay in the kitchen," who would you rather go to for a prostate exam?

Intersex children assigned the wrong sex tend to know it all while they're growing up, not just when puberty hits. Which sex you are has a lot more involved than who you're attracted to. Most lesbians are happy being female, most gay men are happy being male. It works the same way for straight people. There's a great many developmental reasons why someone would appear to be hermaphroditic, (although in humans we usually call that "intersex.") Some have to do with the mother's hormones during development, although some babies have the DNA of two people instead of one. (Source is included so you can read that for yourself.)

I had a choice of the type of OBGyn I wanted (male or female) and chose Male. But I know many women who choose female. I prefer a male because I am more comfortable having a male see me naked and checking for breast cancer than a female. But all the same, some females feel it's perverse to have a male "feeling them up". It really depends on personal preference.

All my friends with female gynos say that their Pap Smears always hurt. The ones with male gynos rarely complain about pain after a Pap Smear. (I haven't personally had any pain.)
Male gynos listen better and are more open to different types of treatments. My best friend had a female gyno who refused to give any of her patients an IUD. Another friend wanted to go on Depo-Provera and her female gyno said no. I've never known people to have trouble with a male gyno.
Women gynos tend to think that they know what's best for everyone because it worked/didn't work for them or many of their patients.
There's always a female nurse in the room when your gyno is a male. My mom's been going to ours for over 25 years. He delivered me and I've been seeing him for 5 years now.
Either way, go with a doctor that makes you comfortable and hear you out. If he or she won't listen to your concerns,

I have a preference for a female gyn doctor, she may have experienced the same problems that I might have had at one time or another. It seems to me a female would know more than a male gyn doctor just because she is female. A male doctor all he knows about his profession he had to learn from text< where a female can learn from text and experiences. When I am speaking to my doctor and she responds "I know what you mean" I believe her.

I'd choose the female. Only a female really knows what it's like to have cramps, and to experience some of the things women experience.

a male doctor told the following to my mom when she took me to my first check up.
He stated that, a female gynecologist is better qualified than any male doctor anywhere. Because, a female doctor has experienced all the things that a woman experiences and has first hand knowledge of everything a woman experiences with respect to female health issues.
Since this was my first exam, I was glad he said that, I hopped off the exam table and said great give us a referral, He gave us several and we found a good one together.
That was 7 years ago and i've been seeing her ever since.

My sis and mom went to male gynos when they needed operations because they felt the ones they selected were more skilled in surgery than female gynos.
