I think you can rush the dying along by sprinkling a bunch of rock salt on the stump and around the roots.

They will continue to grow for up to 18 mo. after the stump is gone then they will begin to die

That relies upon (of direction) If that's a pine, you will very virtually quite kill it... consistent with danger its death would be in a year or 2, in spite of the shown fact that it is going to come! different bushes rely on root shape & soils... I quite have an o.ok.tree in my mom's backyard that become cut back to interior of three inches of the floor... and it quite is sprouting new branches. additionally- attempt to no longer cut back in dry climate... in different words, save it watered after reducing in case you quite need it.

Maple is a hard wood and actually begins to rot faster then a soft wood such as pine. They will begin to die within a year.
