No, Crosby is the next CROSBY! He's a player all his own. In 30 years people will talk about a new rookie and say "he'll be the new Gretzky, or maybe even the new Crosby".

I actually think Ovechkin is more Lemieux like than Crosby. Both Ovechkin and Lemieux make plays happen by them self (mostly because they have nothing else around them) Whereas Crosby is more like Gretzky in that he sets people up and lets the play develop. I think Crosby and Malkin will be this generations Gretzky and Messier while Ovechkin will be the Lemieux of the league.

Hey MED SCHOOL, maybe you should actually watch Crosby play an entire game. The high lights just show Crosby scoring, but his real talent is his vision and possessing the puck. Those tools let him play defense. He backchecks as most centers do.

What sets him apart is the ability to control the puck in any situation, wether on the defensive end or offensive. No, Crosby really doesn't block shots. But with his talent, why would you ever want him to. Instead of going to his knees to block a shot, he will give a good body check , knock the guy on his wallet, and then take the puck out of his wallet and walk around 3 guys for a goal..

The penguins organization does not want Crosby on the PK. Sid wants to be out on the PK, but they won't let him, they want to save him for the PP. Have you ever noticed that Crosby really never gets the puck on a break-away pass? He is usually the guy giving the break pass. If he has a break-away, he created it, not by cherry picking. I don't see him as Lemieux nor Gretzkey, but I think he will create a new kind of player. Instead of saying "Is player "X" going to be a Gretzkey or Lemieux", we will be adding Crosby to the choice.

it is way too early to tell yet.

Gretzky:
is the all time great and holds more records than any other player in the histroy of the game. But besides records and numbers, he was a superstar who made the players around him great. He could pass and setup plays, he could score, he played good defense in his own zone, he didn't just wait for the puck by the red line and score - he made sure he played two way hockey, and that is how he won the cup so many times. Had gretzky played in the 'new' NHL, in my opinion, he would have probably been even better. He was a huge target back in the 80's and even though he had guys looking out for him, he still needed to be tough enough to take the abuse. The Great One for sure in my books.

Lemieux:
is one of the all time great players after gretzky. He was big, strong and had amazing hands. He could stick handle and deek as good as anyone, but my biggest complaint was his heart and desire. It seems he only really started to care about the game when he got sick. He made an amazing come back but I still don't think he is on the same level as Gretzky.

Crosby:
he is the new NHL player. Quicker, Stronger and talent-riddled, this guy can score some amazing goals. The question is will he be able to keep it up 5 years from now. Time is the ultimate test for this guy. He is awesome, skates well and isn't only offensive minded - we'll see what happens...

Lemieux & Gretzky were players form a differant time, they played a game that they needed people to protect them on the Ice, Crosby is an all round player doesn't need people to protect him, he's not affrad to mix it up when someone gets in his face....So do I think he's the next Lemieux? no Crosby will be better, I see him more like Gordy Howe, an alround player.

I think he is different in that Mario had the reputation of not being media friendly. Sidney seems to be more like Gretzky as the next spokesperson for the game. It is refreshing to see a respectful young man that is positive about the game and appreciates the game and the $ it will bring him. It is refreshing to see a player that is positive about the league instead of a blabber mouth like Brett Hull or Jeremy Roenick. Those guys always put down the game, the league, their fellow players, the fans and then got in their exotic cars and drove home to their mansions that were paid for by playing hockey. The only way Sidney is like Mario is how the refs seem to turn a blind eye when he punches someone, steals the puck from them and puts the puck in the net. Also reminds me of the famous "no call" against Gretzky.

It must suck to be a player these days, always being compared to lemieux and gretzky. but i'm sure 20 yrs from now they'll be saying the next CROSBY. It's a different game now so it's really hard to say but even though i don't care for him, he obviously has talent.

I agree with Brad NotPitt lemieux and gretzky played in the Old NHL and crosby is playing in the New NHL. So i think we will never find out unless the old nhl returns which i doubt.

Only in the way that Lemieux would have to be introduced to his goalie at the end of the season because he would never back check or play any kind of defense. Yeah they are both amazing players when they have the puck, but this is a team sport. Help the defense kid!

He could be... but remember that the rules have changed in the NHL... Maybe he'll be between Lemieux and Gretzky...
