Why do we assume that people who wear glasses are smart?

I think its just a stereotype..."oh people who wear glasses are really smart, they are such nerds!!!"

Its been that way for forever, I think it was just the way that glasses make you look, cause you have to admit, glasses do make you look pretty damn smart :]

I don't know, but I get that alot. I usually wear contacts, but if I have my glasses on one day people say **** like "those make you look smart," when actually I am smart with or without them. Those bastards!

The same reason we assume people who wear all black or dye their hair black is freakish and should be ignored. And the same reason we automatically assume a cheerleaders is always peppy, dumb, and sleeps around. Looks just automatically percieve a category for our minds I guess.

Maybe it's because those who read a lot eventually need glasses from eye strain.

built up stereotypes, because people who read alot are likely to strain the eyes and need galsses, therefore people think if someone has glasses they read alot and if someone reads alot there smart

Because our society is filled with stereotypes..............even if we don't realize that they still exist. Its just what we have been taught since we were young.
