Although I don't think his music is actually about suicide, he did end up committing suicide himself and it's all pretty down-trodden and depressing. His song "Needle in the Hay" was quite appropriately used in the suicide scene in "The Royal Tenenbaums".

It is the theme song for the TV Show and Movie M*A*S*H.
