My advice is firstly, do not, under any circumstances give them matching names. It might sounds cute and twee when they're babies, but they will hate you for it when they start school.

Avoid unusual spellings. It doesn't make you look clever, it makes you look illiterate - just look at Jackiey from Big Brother. And they'll have to spell their name down the phone for the rest of their lives, which is just a pain in the a*se.

The trendier and more modern a name sounds now, the naffer it will sound in ten or twenty years' time. The current trend for bling-style names will be as uncool as 1980s names like Cheryl, Debbie and Lynda by the time they're adults.

Naming child after a place (eg Madison), booze (eg Chardonnay, Stella), weather (eg Storm), geographical features (eg River, Sky), TV show characters (eg Bree) or indeed anything that can be purchased from a shop is just plain tacky. And makes you sound a bit Chav-tastic.

As it happens, there are studies which show that people with traditional, Anglo-Saxon names like David, Joshua, Katherine and Elizabeth are more likely to get jobs when they apply for them than those called Aleesha, LaVerne, Divine, etc.

You really can't go wrong sticking with the classics like Jonathan, Rachel, Rebecca, and so on. They're much harder for people to take the p*ss out of, and they can shorten them themselves when they're older if they want to.

im a mother of 3 year old identical twin girls, i wanted names that were linked somehow, but didnt want to go for something to similar. my two are called katelyn rose, and lauren paige, l follows k in the alphabet, and then in middle names (excluding q) r follows p, so that is where i have linked them, also with the sylabbles, both first names are 2 and middle names are 1.

some of the names i like are (appologies they are all girls, dont really have many fave boys names)

eden
kayla
kayleigh
mia
tianna
