unfortunately, in the mortal kombat movie, they made liu kang the main character
as a result, after he was killed, to keep up with the storyline as it started in the movie, he needed to be a zombie
it's dumb, if you ask me, i would have just made up something about him being brought from the netherworld

Because Liu Kang is one of the most popular characters in the mortal Kombat series and I'm sure that the same thing would have happened had it been Subzero that had died.

TO Sleeves. That will never happen. Scorpion will never die either. WHy Subzero wont.: One of thee most popular characters, and will been in every mortal kombat, stated by Ed Boon.
WHy Scorpion won't: he is Ed Boon's favorite Character!! And Boon also stated he will be in every mortal kombat.
About Lui Kang, it has to do with his storyline. I don't like him personally.

liu kang was shang shun's greatest rival and being that he has liu kang's soul, he can't come back as a living person. so in order to make the storyline proceed, they brought him back as a souless zombie.
