Stone Roses

I side with the Stone Roses, because they're slightly more my generation... I heard them before the Smiths, and their music has a much bigger effect on me... of course, I haven't heard all of the Smiths' stuff, but from what I have heard so far, I don't think the rest is going to change my opinion. With the Smiths, I just can't see what the fuss is about.

The Stone Roses' music seems more fun, more mysterious/ sublime/whatever, just more exciting. When I listen to the Smiths, they don't seem to have anything positive to say, the Stone Roses do. Of course, that's just my take on it...

Hmm... counting up, ten people have voted Smiths and eight people have voted Roses... close, close...

Probably the Smiths. They had a longer career and made several consistently good albums and numerous excellent singles. While the Roses may have made one amazing album better that most of the Smiths' albums they only pulled it off once then went a bit pants. And they were pretty crap live; I saw them at Spike Island at the height of their fame and Ian Brown couldn't sing his way out of a paper bag and they didn't seem that connected with one another; apparently they got worse and worse live, whereas the Smiths (not that i ever saw them) were meant to be pretty good in concert.

Yep, my vote goes for the Smiths, even though i love both bands,

The Smiths - absolutely no comparison. Although i love the Stone Roses too, Ian Brown is no songwriter like Morrissey. There will never be another.

As good as Morrisey and the smith's are/were, nothing can even come close to how much The Roses ROCK, they knocked out two seminal albums. The Smiths have just been consistently average for a long time. Also Ian Brown as a solo artist, WOW, some amazing work, Keep what ya got!!!!!!!!!

The Smiths for being consistently brilliant, and providing the soundtrack to my student days.
The Stone Roses first album is excellent, but Second Coming was shite.

The Smiths. The Roses only released two albums: one wildly over-rated the other absolute drek.
