Songs typically are 3-4-5 mb in size ... so here is an example of the math to figure this out for yourself ...
Let's say that the average file size is 5mb (there are some larger than that) ... and that 5gb - 5,000mb.
Now divide 5,000 by 5 and you have the answer 1,000.
This means that you can get approximately 1,000 MP3 songs on the 5gb MP3 player that you have.

It depends on the bitrate you convert the material with. 128K is generally a standard value and the files sound very good. Figure roughly about 1MB per minute and an average song being 4 minutes. 1250 songs more or less.
