It is addictive for some people. They get a rush out of gossiping. People who cheat or steal get the same rush. People who gossip typically hang out with other gossip-ers and they reward one another for gossiping.

Usually it has very little to do with the person being gossiped about (just like cheating and stealing). It has to do with that feeling of power.

As for the judgmental bit - I think it has to do with feeling superior. THEY do this, but I'm better because I don't. That means that I'm right and they're wrong. For some people, it helps them feel that their own little reality is "the truth."

Because misery loves company...They are miserable...unhappy, no morals, cold-hearted and the list can go on and on...These people travel in groups or should I call them cliques. They are cowards, wants attention, but the enjoyment I get from the gossipers and judgmental people is "I know when they go home they have to face reality of their own miserable life. HA HA

Not everyone is. I've always said that of you don't like what you are looking T YOU SHOULD LOOK IN THE OTHER DIRECTION (AS LONG AS YOU ARE NOT IGNORING SOMEONE IN DANGER OBVIOUSLY) but you don't need to gossip about it. It might sound simplistic but I've always found that people who gossip have aparent who does and those who do not did not. Just make you friends the ones who do not gossip.
