you will get no argument here, i would watch a match just to see him ref.
his ethos was if i send you off its to make you and the game better he simply loved the game.

the refs from the 60's 70's 80's were a disaster one springs to mind clive dunn, they always behind the play and as for the russian linesman less said about that the better.

Without doubt the greatest referee ever, he shoud train other referees how to do the job properly, he has so much quality advice to give. He was very fair but firm when needed to be, and always had a smile on his face, which proved that he enjoyed his job.

Excellent ref but I dont know how you could rate him as best ever, who remembers refs from the 80's, 70's & 60's let alone before then. He's the most famous ever although shouldnt equate that to best ever. Best over the last decade without doubt ...

Probably the best I have seen.
No nonsense, total respect from the players and coaches and very rarely made mistakes. What more could you ask of a Ref.
I always said he could probably ref Italy in the world cup final and still be impartial.

Without a doubt. Very fair but wouldn't stand any messing. Just wish there were a few more like him, especially in this country. The British are rubbish.

He was Brilliant. The players had so much respect for him. One look from those eyes did it.
Bring him to England to show our refs how to do the job properly.
