Directions: Tell which property is illustrated.....
6.51+7.21 = 7.21+6.51.
and this one too
(4.3+6.2)+9.8=4.3+(6.2+9.8).
this is exactley what they looked like in the book, please help me!

The first one is the commutative property:

A + B = B + A

Here you swap the order of the items, but don't change any grouping within parentheses. Think of "commute" = "moving"

The second one is the associative property:

(A + B) + C = A + (B + C)

Here you change the grouping of items, but don't move them around. Think of "associate" = "group"

You can see the difference, right?

Now, here's a test for you...

(4.3 + 6.2) + 9.8 = 9.8 + (4.3 + 6.2)

Is this the commutative (moving) property or is it the associative (grouping) property? The answer is that it is commutative. Notice that the same things are still in the parentheses. So grouping hasn't changed. But the order has changed.

The property is called commutative property of addition.
a+b= b+a
in your case the a would be 6.51
and the b would be 7.21.
What it means is that the order does not matter when you are adding two numbers .

The second one is called associative property of addition.
(a+b)+c= a+(b+c)

what it means is that the order does not matter when you are ADDING any three numbers.

It is called commutative. Addition and multiplication are commutative (meaning that if u switch the numbers around the answer is the same), but subtraction and division are not commutative (e.g., 6-5 is not equal to 5-6)

1st: Commutative
2nd: Associative

Commutative Property: a + b = b + a
or a x b = b x a

Associative Property: a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c or a x (b x c) = (a x b) x c

it's the associative math property. I can't explain it much here, but here's a link to where it's explained rather well.
