actually, there is more to it than a fatal blow. We all know Superman gets his amazing abilities from solar energy. This energy is used up by with each use of his powers, x-ray and heat vision, flight, strength, and etc. During the fight with Doomsday, Big Blue was using up his reserves quicker than his body was taking in from the sun. As this continued, Supes' was growing weaker in each of his ability. In a last ditch effort, Superman placed the last of his strength, the remaining solar energy, in one Punch that took Doomsday down, but D-Day had also struck the hero, who was already low on power that his invulnerability was not enough to protect him. Thus, that was how Superman was defeated.

Though Superman has returned, he could die again by Doomsday if he uses up all his reserves again. Sadly, Doomsday adapts himself after each defeat so that he can't be beaten the same way twice. So, the Man of Steel has to come up with different ways to win each time. He has sent Doomsday to the end of time and the center of the earth, if I remember correctly.

They Both fought untill the Bitter end. But Superman later on comes back from the Dead after an appearance of Several Immitators such as the Eradictor, The clone of Superman/Aka Superboy and Steel and the sucky but powerfull cyborg superman who is still alive in Dc universe today. Also they should not have killed off more Grown-up looking Supergirl I liked her alot better than the Teenage one we have now. Wish they would bring her back but then would that be kinda hard having two Supergirls and Powergirl who does'nt even remember being one.

so are you like 5? Superman IS DC comics, they will never kill the sacred cow... even in the past any 'killing' was short lived, and his return was always part of the plan and to rebuttal your trollish Rant point by point 1. acting like he is a God -- really using natural gifts for the betterment of humanity we need more 'gods' like this 2. and he seems to want attention -- he's an Alien with powers beyond mortal Men: wearing a Mask and hiding in the shadows is a better way to get people to investigate him and ask "why is he here' 3. like when he stops a crime he stays there to wait for photographers to show up -- really; pretty sure he's back in the crowd as Clark 4. unlike batman who stops a crime and then goes and stops another crime -- Batman is just as if not more crazy than his entire rogues Gallery 5. if he was depowered he would get the crap kicked outta him by almost everyone -- have you ever Read the comic books, or seen one single version of Superman ever? 6. he is a illegal immigrant because he went on a ******* spaceship to earth -- really you went there: you either need to increased or decrease; but somehow Modify your dosage

Death in Metropolis

In the space of only a few issues of the Superman comic book series, Superman and Doomsday engaged in a titanic battle that made Superman realize that Doomsday would continue to attack relentlessly, endlessly, with no defeat or surrender in sight. It culminated in Superman #75, where in a heroic act of self-sacrifice, Superman fought Doomsday to the bitter end, until the two combatants each struck a simultaneous, fatal blow that left both of them lifeless in front of the Daily Planet building in Metropolis.

in "the death of superman", superman desides that what ever it takes he will stop doomsday and then they punch each other really hard and fianly superman kills doomsday and while clark is waiting for the paramedics he just dies and the grafic novel ends. huh, that dosen't really make sense dose it.

They physically fought to death. The damage that Superman had sustained was too much, but with Deadman's help( Boston Brand) he came back to life.
