The literal result was that humans, having disobeyed God, were thrown out of the garden and made to fend for themselves, with no help from God. They had to work, starve, feed themselves, suffer illness, etc....the world as we know it.
The implication is the price we pay for free will, and knowledge of ourselves. Having taken the fruit from the tree of knowledge, the one thing God denied us, we must try to know God, not as a child knows parents, but as an independent being knows a mysterious higher power.

simply by fact the serpent informed them the undeniable fact that not in simple terms could they not die from eating the fruit, yet that "their eyes could be opened and that they could benefit the understanding of stable and evil." In different words, the fruit of the tree they ate from could supply them information. God needed them to proceed to be ignorant, that's why he informed them they could die in the event that they ate the fruit. the entire tale is a metaphor offering a blueprint for using worry to maintain human beings ignorant and common to regulate. variety of like how the Church replaced into initially set up.

They ate (assimilated or consumed knowledge) from the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Satan).

That's why God said;

Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

We all must eat (assimilate or consume knowledge) of the tree of life (Jesus Christ), to live for ever.
