I will be doing the same thing, but it looks like I will have to go back in late May or June. They start the flower season in March, but the Tulips aren't expected until May. The warmer the weather the earlier it comes. Maybe with this warmth in Europe it will come earlier. I don't want to have to make two trips.

Maybe I'll see you there.... Have fun :)

If you peruse this site (select English at the bottom first). Somewhere in it, it says the most likely dates the tulips bloom.

It might be too soon to get the full tour of tulips.

I was in Amsterdam two summers ago in July, and the BloomenMarkt (flower market) was at its height. While I am sure that the Dutch grow tulips year round, the abundance won't be there in March like it was in July. Don't forget, Holland is very far North and the climate isn't good for year-round agriculture. However, I am pretty sure that they do grow flowers year round, indoors and out, so you could see something.

As a side recommendation, you must visit the house of Anne Frank - I've traveled all over the USA, Mexico, Germany, Spain, and the Czech Republic, but I've never been in a building as profound as that. It will really, really move you and it is a must-see. I was more impressed with Anne Frank's house than the Rijks Museum and the Van Gogh musuem, two of Europe's most famous art museums.

Anyways, have fun and enjoy Amsterdam! It's a great town - one of my all-time favorites (along with Prague and Phileadelphia).

The Keukenhof where you are supposed to go to see the tulips is open as from the 22nd of March till the 20th of May, so you will be on the time bracket to go. Of course the closest to May or May itself would be better, even though the weather is so mild this year that I think you will be OK. You will love it.

Keukenhof is the show window of the Dutch ornamental cultivation industry. Since 1949 our 'royal suppliers' (growers and exporters) have been supplying their best bulbs, and participants in the indoor shows have been exhibiting their most beautiful cut flowers. These are exhibited during the open period of the park.

I'd double check the blooom dates, because you have a veeeery small window there between bloom and poof! It's over! LOL!! I would look it up-Google it- or maybe call somebody that works over there with the tulips and see. If you research it surely you will find out...and have a great time!

just like the others said it may be a bit early. my parents came to visit right around that time last year and they were just barely peeking through. The other bulbs were out though so you'll still get to see daffodils and crocuses in full bloom ;)
