There are several written records besides journals left. You have to remember that even though the pilgrims left England, they did not completely sever ties with the home country. They wrote back to the crown going into incredble detail about their movements, what they found and what they've accomplished in the New World and they sent people back to get supplies several times (all of which had to be recorded and still remains to this day). The British archives would have these letters catalogued in an archive most likely in London.

Unless your teacher has been to the archives at the British library she is unlikely to know that there are other things out there nor do public school teachers really care for the most part. But, there is a lot more left than just journals.

My 13x great grandfather signed the Mayflower Pact. I know that beyond birth and land records, many stories and documents have been handed down thru the generations.
Heck, we've traced our lineage back to Pharaoh. So to imply there is or was only one source (journals) would be false.

??? There's not much else they can go off of besides the journals. The only other thing they we have is the physical remains of what they built and made and altered the landscape.
