I have been saying that they do not need to waste the pick on a HB or QB. They have absolutely too many holes on that team to fill and it would be pointless to send a 1st round HB or QB out there with no offensive line. I believe their offense is almost average, and they should focus on defense just to stay competitive. Or go with onfensive line help, then draft skilled positions in later years. I think Joe Thomas would be a perfect pick, although it isnt as flashy of a pick as people want to see. Although, I dont see how they could pass on Jamarcus Russel if he is there at #2. Im sure they will mess up again.

I think they should trade their #2 pick for whoever they trade with's 1st, 3rd, and 6th round picks. Some team would do it. Like (just an example) let's say they trade with the Packers at #15. The Packers would never give up their first 3 picks for the number 2 pick, but maybe they'd give up their 1st, 3rd, and 6th picks. At #15, there are still very good lineman like Levi Brown (Penn State) they could pick up for Kitna and Jones. And then with their second pick or one of the 3rd round picks, they get a guy like Chris Leak (Florida), Drew Stanton (Michigan State), or Kevin Kolb (Houston).

I think they SHOULD do that, but I'm guessing they stay with their #2 and take a Brady Quinn, JaMarcus Russell, or Brian Brohm.

They need to trade down a few spots and may actually have that opportunity now that JaMarcus Russell has declared. They will have to wait on the coin flip (Cleveland may be wanting one of the QB's) and see what other top 10 draft teams may want a QB or Peterson or Johnson. If they stay put hopefully they will pick Joe Thomas, he is a beast and they need linemen really bad. If they deal down and get more picks it would be nice to see them pick up Alan Branch, he is a huge space eater and would take up 2 blockers so linebackers can do their jobs. Imagine them with Rogers and Branch in the middle. The Raiders seem destined to pick Russell leaving Brady available so maybe some team gives up a fortune to draft him. No matter what though it seems likely Millen will waste another opportunity...to put in perspective how bad he has been do you realize the Houston Texans have been a franchise for 5 years and have won 2 more games than the Lions have won in the past 6? Who could imagine an expansion franchise winning more games in less time?

Lets hope that they do something right for a change...it looks likely right now that Troy Smith will slide to the top of the 2nd round, lets hope Millen isnt stupid and jumps on him. He has NFL bust written all over him.

The Lions need to hire a better coaching staff and they need to "weed out" all the bad coach's on the team. Also, drafting a lineman in the 1st round is important since their aren't many lineman that are 1st round material. Sam Baker or Joe Thomas should be considered with the edge going to 6'8" 330 Lbs. Joe Thomas. Imagine the Lions with 4000+ yard passer John Kitna, Roy Williams, and Joe Thomas. Now, thats a way to go....they can get quality steals later in the draft with defensive players.

Troy Smith???? Why does everyone think he is going in the first round for? The Lions should take either OT Joe Thomas or RB Adrian Peterson. The lions have had good luck with RB's from Oklahoma Universities.. Barry Sanders,Billy Sims, Steve Owens..... just to name a few

They don't need another QB for sure, Kitna is doing a pretty good job. What they do need is a new general manager who will spend some money to get a few good players and a better defensive line. I agree that they don't need flash right now, they need fundamentals.

BTW, loved how they embarrased TO and company

Somebody to replace Matt Millen.......They need to get rid of him. He fires coaches for not getting the job done. Yet hes sucks at getting talent in. Get rid of Millen and the team will start looking up. I think they are okay at QB....I like Kitna there. Kitna is a warrior.

they should probably trade the pick...if they have so many holes on the team more picks could give them quantity over quality...sticking with high offensive draft choices hasnt really worked...nfl drafts are really unpredictable...from ryan leaf as an early pick to tom brady getting drafted on the 2nd day...u just never know...might get lucky by having more picks might find diamond in the rough...i.e. marques colston almost mr. irrelevent turned out to be one of the best recievers on a playoff team...quantity over quality...thats wat good front office work allows you to do...lions havent had that in a while.
