I give it wether they want it or not. I even write "See Photo ID" near my signed name on the back of cards in big bold letters just so they do it.

Why?

Because if its nabbed by someone whose not me, I want the sadistic pleasure of having them caught right off the bat. While not all criminals are dumb, I'd rather play the chance that they are.

I can answer from both sides of the desk. As a teller (about 10 years ago), we were trained to try to recognize regular customers so that we would not have to ask for ID. Also, we were encouraged not to ask for ID on smaller routine transactions even if we did not really recognize the person (under $100.)
As a customer, I am typically only asked for ID when withdrawing larger amounts of cash (over $100), but typically not for deposits or other transactions.

I am always asked for my ID, but they know me so by the time I reach the counter they already have my account up on the screen and are ready to go. I can do transactions without my ID on me as well because they know me personally. It's just a policy issue thingy that they have to follow. But also there are Homeland Security rules that now require a valid US ID for all banking transactions.

Only if they ask. I use the drive-thru or "ugly teller" and don't really care if they know me or not.
