"Pilot astronauts serve as both Space Shuttle commanders and pilots. During flight the commander has onboard responsibility for the vehicle, crew, mission success and safety of flight. Hi. Imagine how you would dock with the ISS at thousands of miles an hour and hundreds of miles up. Takes a lot of skill. Now imagine landing without power. Takes even more skill. Now imagine doing both of these tasks in weightless vs non-weightless conditions and you should realize what kind of man or woman this job takes. My hat is off to them.
