My parents are in hong kong right now and they have bought me a copy of dragonball for the wii but im not sure if it will be compatible with a PAL wii. The shop assistant told my mum it will work, but thats not exactly the best person to ask....so any clues?

Well, I have no experience just like this... But I don't believe that the Wii is region free (though I speak from NTSC experience). So I would say that this Hong Kong game won't work on your PAL system.
Even so, there is a company currently working on a way to override the Region locking (A Wii version of FreeLoader). So there's hope.

The Nintendo Gamecube Freeloader works with wii and they are about 19.99.
