How to deal with a workmate who you don't like. It's getting to the stage where i see him coming i go the opposite way.

The problem is i have my break at the same time as him (can't change have to have it at that time) and he constantly asks me questions when i am trying to eat and read my paper i try to ignore him and he still hasn't got the message.

How do i have my break in peace? He also has a habit of touching me on my shoulder and this goes right through me. How do i stop this?

Try saying "I'm desperately trying to read this paper but, it just isn't happening" get up and move away.

He is clearly oblivious to the degree of your uncomfort in his presence. You need to bing this to his attention- nothing sinister- just be direct with him.

Also, u mentioned u have to take your break at the same time, but do you have to spend it in the same place? could you not say to him "i have plans to meet a friend for lunch so i wont be around" or something, then go and do your own thing...

If he then persists, there's no harm in mentioning to your boss that you are uncomfortable having breaks at the same time as this guy and could it be changed, or could your boss have a word with him... etc etc.

If your worried he is coming on to you then u need to be direct sooner rather than later- to avoid an even more uncomfortable situation.

Don't be scared to be honest- whats the worst that could happen?

good luck

I'm sorry, but my experience of people like him is the only way they get the message is through you being direct. You don't have to be unpleasant or unkind, but at the same time you have the right to enjoy your own breaks and the company you choose to keep! So, you have to tell him and tell him 'straight.'

If you don't like him touching you just tell him that you don't feel comfortable when he touches you. Also if you don't want him to disturb you when your taking your break just tell him politely that you would rather he didn't disturb you when your taking your break and reading your newspaper. Don't forget though you might upset him and although this isn't your fault perhaps you should organise to go out one night to make him feel like you don't hate him. Hope I've helped.

if you have an older brother or male friend who is the beefy type, get him to have a 'chat' with your work colleague. failing that tell him straight, use bad language to get your point into his thick pea brain and make sure others are present.he could be done for sexual harrassment.

Maybe he thinks you're sexy. Tell him you have a contagious illness; next time he bothers you cough on him
