I have a "cheapo" that I got on ebay for less than $50 including shipping. It's not as fancy as an ipod, but works. I guess it really depends on whether you are willing to part with $300 when you could save $250 and spend that on something else....
The benefit to buying an ipod is if you want to be able to put every cd you current own on it. I use mine for the music I am currently into listening. When I get something new I take off stuff I haven't listened to in a while.

You spend all that money for an MP3 player that can hold 10000 songs. Now get real, how many songs will you actually listen to. Do you know how long it would take for you to listed to that many songs. If 2 minutes per song, then 83 hours. No way. Get the MP3 player though, that has the big screen, can display pictures, and then you are set.
You can also get the MP3 player with removable memory cards so you can always get more memory if you need it.

I own a $37 RCA Wal_Mart purchased mp3 player (with a 2GB SD card in it) and a $400 ipod video (30GB) and they both have great sound quality. The ipod has more memory, will support video as well as music, but itunes (the program you use with ipods) uses mp4 file formats and isn't compatible with other mp3 players. I bought the less expensive mp3 for when I'm cycling or out and about, and the ipod at home or in a safe environment.

depends on what size and if you have alot of songs
for $300 im guessing its a 30 gb so that holds like around 20 000 songs if you realy have any but a cheaper one can hold about 500
songs so if you have alot of songs get the higher dollar one or else get the cheap one...unless you want it for videos because viseos take up alot of space so id get the $300 one and actualy heres a couple i recomend

Depends on what features you want and how many songs you want it to hold. If you don't care how many songs, get the cheaper one!!
