i've been having an arguement at work for some time now with a colleague who insists that the human skin is water proof, whereas i say it is water resistant.

Since the skin can clearly lose water to the environment, it cannot be water"proof".

The idea of water proofing something is so that it continues to function when immersed in water. This is true for the human body for a limited time!

If however, you mean that no water (vapour) is exchanged between the enviornment and the thing that is to be water proof'ed, then obviously its not the case with the human body.

You are both wrong...I think skin is prosperous (not sure on spelling) you have pores so things are allowed in very small molocules. I am not no scientist or doctor just a grade 10 student so I wouldn't say I am right but I remeber learning that it was a prosperous material.

it is definetly not water proof. this is demonstrated by the fact that u sweat and proves that there are pores on your skin. also very few natural substances, apart from rubber...etc, are 100% waterproof, this is becasue water is one of the smallest molecules smaller than carbon dioxide and oxygen

water resestant if you are in it for more than 2 days your body will bloat. why do you think we get prunny in the shower?
