I used the keyboard while my hands were still dirty from food and now the keys are a bit dirty and sticky. How can I clean them without damaging the laptop?

Wipe it off with a damp cloth, not a soaking wet one. Make sure the laptop is off and the battery is taken out. Also, be sure it is completely dry before turning it back on.

Although spilling liquid on a laptop can cause serious damage, getting the tops of the keys slightly wet will not damage the keys or the laptop. I would recommend one of two solutions:
1) if it is food, then get a spray cleaner like Windex or Orange Clean, and spray a paper towel (instead of spraying the keyboard itself). Use the towel rub the keys clean.

2). if the stains are caused by built up dirt and grime, q-tips and rubbing alcohol does the best. Dip a clean q-tip in the alcohol then using it to clean the keys and between the keys.

Some laptops will have keys that pop off the keyboard, however, if you are uncertain if this is the case, then you should probably not attempt taking the keys off to clean them.

First, shutdown your PC and remove the mains plug, unplug the keyboard (remember which socket) and hold it upside down to release any debris from inbetween the keys (pressing the keys is a good way to release it).

If you have a can of compressed air then use it to blow any debris from around and under the keys, if not then use the hose of a vacuum cleaner to remove it.

Now take one of the cotton buds and put a couple of drops of the cleaning fluid on it, use the cotton bud to clean the sides of the keys.

After cleaning the sides of the keys take your lint free cloth and dampen it with your cleaning fluid (don't put the liquid directly on the keyboard), give the surface of the keyboard a good wipe over using the cloth to trace the contours of the keys

When you have finished give the keyboard a wipe over with the dry cloth/duster, you should now have a nice clean keyboard

Do NOT use any solvent, if that gets inside the machine can be trashed, you can buy special computer cleaning fluids that are non destructive. but I always use a small amount of good washing up liquid dripped onto a cloth which has been wetted and squeezed out. And then wipe of with another cloth wrung almost dry. And keep the wiping off cloth clean by re-wetting and squeezing it out.round the edges of keys a cotton bud similarly damp will work.

I use an old toothbrush for dusting, and a rag dampened with mild detergent followed by one damp with plain water on mine. With the system shut off of course.

If you have gotten something sticky under the keys, you may have to remove the keyboard, but this is pretty complicated on some laptops, so you might want to refer it to a professional

Wipe it down as best you can then spray it with a can of air. Or go to Staples and ask them.

u take a papertowel and either just went it with water or windex and make sure it is NOT DRIPPING WET. it has to be lightly damp and gently run the papertowel on ur keyboard =)

The 'air in a can' works the best! It works for my desktop and laptop. :)
