http://barenecessities.com has a large selection of bras in just about every size imaginable. They also have frequent sales, and lots of pretty styles. I've ordered from them once before and was pleased with what I ordered and the size fit me great.
As for measuring, you can do it yourself, it's not very difficult. I'm a seamstress so I know a thing or two about measuring and what to measure. Sales associates in lingerie stores are just what they are...Sales Associates. They get very little training in how to fit someone with a bra, and most of the stores do not use the proper measuring guide. Your best bet would be to go to a seamstress that specializes in making bras, they'll be able to find you your correct size. Or if you want to skip that step, you can just select a variety of sizes and see which one fits best. This is almost the perfect way of finding out your size because when a bra fits...you'll know it. A lot of people frown upon this idea and think trying on different sizes till you find the right one is wrong and will get you the wrong size. But it's the complete opposite. Also find out what your sister size is, so if you do have moments when you've gained or lost a few pounds you'll still have something that fits. A sister size smaller is 1 band size smaller with 1 cup size larger. A sister size larger is 1 band size larger with 1 cup size smaller. For example, a 38D made smaller would be a 36DD (E in some companies overseas). Made larger that 38D would turn into a 40C.

If you are beyond a DD bra, it is best to look for local specialty stores. Try the yellow pages for stores that specialize in larger-size bras. You might have to go a bit out of your way, but it will be worth it.

I got all my bras at Gap body. They have great sales sometimes and bras are super cheap like $10-$15, and they are real comfy. Most Gap Body stores are in the back, so men hardly ever come in, and the ambiance is very soft and serene, a very nice shopping experience.

I wear a 38DD and buy my bras at Layne Bryant. They work great, give awesome support, and are pretty too. They can be a little costly but right now they are having a buy 2 get 2 free sale. Hope it helps :)

spending money on good bras is smart
buying cheap less expensive only lasts a while. and doesn't give the proper support.

Go to Victoria's Secret and get measured for free. Thay have nice bras and if you can afford it, get one or two. If not, after you get measured and go to Kohl's or Target.

You should go anywhere that will measure you as well as get you a comfortable bra. Lane Bryant sounds likeyour place, but JcPenny is good for that as well.
