I'm thinking I would let him go out after dark by himself but with a girl that is a bad idea. Plus, I would probably let him chat online but probably not a daughter because there are some crazy guys out there. I guess these are just a few.

I'd treat them equally...boys are no longer exempt from robberies, sex crimes, stalkers and such.

I think that's a bad idea, man. Your daughter would get so pissed. You need to give your children equal privileges depending on age. (Sure you'll let your 17 year old drive, but your 8 year old can't.)
You can't play favorites, and I know that's not what you are doing, but that's how your kids might see it.
