Ah poor little guy. I know with mine I used a tiny pinch of salt diluted in warm water(not hot! just barely warm!) and put a couple drops in the nostrils. Then used the snot sucker as I like to call it(the bulb) to help get the mucus out of the nose. If you have a humidifier, use it. If not I really suggest getting one and steaming up the bathroom then sitting in there with him until you do get one. This will help de congest him too. When he is asleep you can put a pillow UNDER his crib mattress to SLIGHTLY elevate it so it will help him sleep. They also have baby Vick's to rub on his chest too. The fever does not sound too bad. Just give him some baby Motrin or Tylenol. Lots of fluids. If he is not eating or drinking too much pedialyte will keep him from getting dehydrated.

The only reason to take into the ER would be high fever, clogged nose with green or yellow color(sign of infection) . I have 4 small children and was told the first cold is important because it's the first time they are really having to build up immune system by fighting it off. Just don't let it get worse.

I've gone through the same exact thing with my daughter when she was about 6 months old. Here at the hospital they told me there was nothing they could really do, the child's pedi is the best answer. When I saw my daughter's pedi though she told me that I had to give her infant tylonol for the fever and she would just have to overcome the cold. I am not telling you not to go see the baby's doctor, you should definitally still go see them. You may think the baby just has a cold but he may be worse then that, he may have gotten namonia. Do not chance that it could kill your baby. I think that even thought the pedi is out of town, a nurse or someone else should be available in the office to speak with, them may be able to examin him to rule that out. If it is a cold though, like my daughter's I just had to keep suctioning out her nose and had elevated her matress at night, try folding a blanket up and placing it under the baby matress in his crib. It will keep the loose fluids flowing down his throat at night in stead of haveing them sit in his throat and stopping him from breathing. Good luck to you, I hope things get better for him and yourself really soon!!!

If heonly has a fever of 100 they wont really do anything at the ER. My 6 month old had a real bad cold last month. I took him to the doctor & they didnt give him anything. I bought some vicks baby rub and rubbed alover his neck & chest. Also I bought the Johnsons Vapr bath & let him take a bath in it. It helped alot. Also prop him up a little when he sleeps.

To help your baby sleep you should try propping his head up a little. Also try taking him into the bathroom -turn on shower on hottest setting and just sit with him(not in the water) to let him breath in the steam. That should help loosen up his stuffiness. As long as he is having wet diapers then you know he is not dehydrated. If your doctor is out of town call his # to talk to theon call physician to ease your mind. My oldest had colds like this alot when she was a baby. Hope he feels better.

Don't freak out. This happens! What I just did with my 81/2 month old was: give him lots of fluids water and breastmilk), give him cold and flu medicine, steam (run hot water in the bathroom), use saline and sucker, I had a vic's type plug in too and most of all gave him lots and lots of love! I couldn't imagine....being so sick and not able to tell you (mom or dad) what's wrong and how to fix it.
Take care and hope your little one feels better.

PS. Make sure to keep an eye on that temp. If it goes over 101 call Dr. ASAP!!

Get saline drops for babies and then suction his nose, that really helps, give him fluids if he will take them, if his fever is higher than 100 go to the ER. Also try baby tylenol for the fever

First of all, your doctor should have someone on call if he is not available. But maybe you should call the pharmacy and give them your babies weight and age and they can recommend something. My son is 25lbs. and is 16 months old. He is taking Triaminic now for a cold. For 25 lbs. he gets one teaspoon. The same with Tylenol. And FyI, I don't like giving him benedryl because it makes him a little crazy acting and too sleepy like he's drugged or something. Sometimes thay recomend this for congestion but I'd go with something else.

clean out his nose every hour, take the crib and make the matress slope just a little, and give him baby tylenol. thats just what my daughters doctor told me to do with her. the hospital will say a fever of 100 is normal watch and if he gets to 102 take him fast. otherwise it should be fine
