I know you can't here. I thought I wanted mine done when I had my second child and my ob/gyn said no. I was the same age as you. I did get the mirena though. It's an IUD and it last up to 5 years. You could always use that until you are able to get your tubes tied.

I am sure that it is possible depending on the doctor. I had wanted the same thing done (I was in exactly the same boat as you) but my docotr wouldn't. In hind sight I am really glad, at 19 you just don't know what your circumstance will be in 10 years (even less for me). I would hold off on the tubal (you can get it done anytime and actually if you wait until after the postpartum period they now have a method where they do not go through the belly button but through the vagina thus making healing much easier). You can choose any number of long term birth control methods, but a tubal is really hard to reverse should you decide that it wasn't right for you, and if in several years you still feel the same there is nothing preventing you from going ahead with the surgery because by then you will be older and they will have no choice but to say yes.

Very few Dr's will do it on someone as young as you. I was young when I had my first set of kids. As they got older and I got older I wanted more.........when I was 19 I felt I was done. I now have 23 yr old, 20 yr, 19 yr, 9 yr, and a 5 yr old.........I'm 39 and very glad I did not get my tubes tied at the age of 20 like I wanted too. Consider getting an IUD until you are older 100% sure your family is complete!

I think it's highly unlikely that most doctors will agree to this at such a young age. You may think you're done now, but you could easily change your mind in 10 or 12 years, if you ever happen to get into a new relationship or get married. I'm sure that's not in your plans for the future if you are in a committed relationship now, but you'd be surprise how quickly and drastically life can turn around.

It is possible but I'm not so sure but I believe they will not do it until you are 25 or older that's what I have understood..My sister in law wanted to do it when she was 19, 3 yrs and this is what she was told at the hospital.. You can ask your doctor and he can be able to help you answering this ...just to make sure it is okay to do it now or you will have to wait... Just think about it twicw if you can do it now..because later you will not be able to have any more kids if you want more!!! GOOD LUCK!!

Sure, but your insurance won't pay for it because it is an elective procedure. My daughter's babies were all life threatening experiences but the insurance wouldn't cover it until the doctor wrote it up as an emergency, life threatening necessity. She now has three and her tubes have been ligated to prevent further pregnancies.

I think you only have to be 18. You shouldtalk to your Dr. about it. They can do it as soon as you have your baby. What kind of insurance do u have? If you have medicaid they will pay for it up until 6 weeks after you have the baby. But they sayits easier on you to do it while your allready at the hospital.

You will be hard pressed to find a Dr. who will give you one. You are an adult, and if you can find a Dr. to perform the operation, you certainly can have one. But most doctors won't do it at such a young age.

How about birth control pills? The sponge? The IUD? Use birth control!!!!

You most likely can, although you should be sure it's what you want. Be sure to discuss it with your OB - I have heard of some doctor who won't perform a tubal ligation on a women under 20 or 21.

Congrats on your new baby!
