Your sub conscious mind is either trying to tell you to take him 2 the vets as there is something wrong with him or it's trying to prepare you for his death. In me saying this it does not mean your dog is going to die yet it's just trying to prepare you for it so it isn't so bad

I think some dreams are total nonsense, some dreams are triggered by things that have happened in the day, and some are caused by things that are bothering us.
I think your dog is old so you are subconciously worrying about him dying, this is coming out in your dreams.
I don't know what to suggest - make a big fuss of him, take him to the vet for a check-up to put your mind at rest, perhaps.

You know that the time you have with your dog is limited and you are worried how you will cope with the end and how you will cope with may be having to have him put to sleep. You will cope and you will know when the time has come. To put your mind at rest take him to the vet for a check and some blood tests to check his kidney, liver and thyroid function also to check his heart and limbs. If he has a problem make sure he has the right meds and you can enjoy each other company until nature takes its course.

There is a special bond between some pets and their owners when they are very close. It may be your dog is trying to let you know he is sick or does not have much longer to live. I had my dog for 17 yrs. and had to have him put to sleep. I even told him when and why I was doing this.
the morning I was taking him to the vet, he was like a 2yr old
pup, frisky as heck and very loving. I bottle fed him as a pup of 6 days old as the mother went missing. As you can see I cared very deeply for him and did not want him to suffer. Still miss him after 3 yrs.

It's because you love him so much. I could say go to bed thinking nice different thoughts, but that probably won't happen. Just enjoy every day you have with him and go to bed thinking of the lovely companion he is. Bless you, I had a golden retriever he was my life, it's a shame they don't last as long as a human.

Unfortunately all living things are subject to death. Losing family members & pets is hard. It sounds like you are preparing yourself for his death.

Accept that he will die, not immediately but soon & your dreams will be more peaceful.
