I was wandering if a 1993 camaro needs a bypass module.
The key does have the chip on it. what all will the bypass module be for... ENGINE START and what else?

Now I understand what the bypass module does. Will the alarm, lock and unlock work with out using the bypass module for the remote start. Another words, key chip ONLY controls the starting of the car correct?

These chips are only resistors inside the key that is monitored by the VAT module. This module enables a relay that allows power through to the starter solenoid. The module also sends a signal to the PCM that the key is valid and to allow either injector driver circuits or the fuel pump enable. It's a good system but the weakness in it is the actual ignition cylinder in the column as the wires tend to break off from the motion of turning the cylinder. It causes the wires to work harden and get brittle which eventually leads to breakage. Just bite the bullet and get it repaired properly and it will save you a lot of grief. Good luck.

Just starting.
The 'chip' is actually a resistor that activated the vehicle anti theft (VAT) module. The module then activated a starter relay and turned the fuel injectors on by activating the quad drivers inside the engine control computer.
I'm not aware of a 'bypass' module for the GM VAT system, but hell, anything is possible.
