I'm planning my gap year for next year too and am definitely going to Aussie and NZ. Visited Australia in the summer for a month and didn't want to leave is a wicked place and the people there are amazing. Fiji is also a wicked place to go, visited there on my way home and had so much fun, there is always loads of backpackers around to meet and socialise with!
E-mail me if you wanna compare plans

I suggest going to Australia, especially Sydney, a place their called "the Palms" in Kings Cross. The best place I have been, make friends from all around the world here. Then Australia is generally amazing, then to New Zealand for 6 weeks then S.E. Asia for about 3 months!!! Amazing!!

The VSO are a really reputable voluntary service organisation (in fact I think that's what it stands for) which organise great gap years.

Prince William's gap year (Peru I think) was organised by "Raleigh International" which is another reputable organisation for charity.

Always check with the British Embassy for a list of places that they don't recommend Brits go to (for safety/security reasons).
