My doctor told me the less I wear mine the less risk of your eyes becoming dependent on the glasses and getting worse. So, I only wore them to see the classroom board, to drive and other distance-related things. In 10 years my prescription has never changed, so I'd say there is definite truth in this. They may still get worse with age, but not as quickly as if you wore contacts/glasses constantly.

When I was young and wanted to get into Navy ROTC, I knew my eyesight was going to be an issue, so for weeks before the exam, I didn't wear my glasses and I looked at things far away. I snuck by.
I recently went for an eye exam, and in the last three years my eyes have improved. I spent the last 27 months in the South Pacific, with time on the ocean and looking at horizons and things far away. In my case, at least, it seems that looking at distances can helpl the eyes re-adjust.
Some report improvement with contact lenses. Some eyes change with age - my mother went through a period in her 60's when she no longer needed glasses.
I don't think wearing glasses will make your eyes worse - but in some cases, not wearing them might help make them better.

You are near sighted because you have been doing the wrong thing with the muscles attached to your eye. It's a different feeling when the eyes are relaxed. Picture the muscles letting go. Think soft. Never TRY to see anything. If relaxation gets to be a habit and you can leave your glasses off most of the time your vision will get better.

I have worn glasses since I was 6 or 7. That was 48 years ago.
I have had three or four new prescriptions in that time. So I don't think the glasses have a thing to do with it. Age sure does though.

Wearing glasses or contacts will not make your eyesight get any worse necesarily. Before someone get glasses or contacts their eyes strain to see better, once they start wearing the glasses or contacts their eyes relax a little and so their vision does get slightly worse, but only because their eyes have relaxed. But it's only a slight change. If the persons eyesight gets worse after that point it's because it was hereditary.

Since you are near sighted, Please dont use glasses while reading, writing and working with near objects....
Please maintain a distance which is comfortable for your eyes..
Eyesight worsens when you put more strain to your eyes like reading/writing in to short distance to eyes etc...
Please consult another eye doctor if you have any doubt... you can always take a second opinion..... You should not neglect eye problems....

i agree with Mikana876, your eyes will progressivly get worse no matter what if that is whats going to happen. im told i cant get laser surgery until my eyes fully finish. else i will just have to get the surgery done again. the only thing about not wearing your glasses to not get any worse is that your eyes arent going to get better. just wear the glasses, haha

They may or may not get worse whether you wear the glasses or not. If your eyes or going to get worse, they will with or without the glasses. I've heard that your eyes become dependent upon the glasses, which makes sense to me, but I don't know it for fact.
