you will never use a PCI video card unless its an inter grated graphics card, in which case you will know about it. If its an intergrated card your monitor hook-up will go into the motherboard and the intergrated card will have a small amount of video memory.

Its basically a PCI-E or AGP video card. Take out your current card and look for the sticker on it (either for a serial number or a label that says what type it is) Assuming you left the stickers on (for warranty purposes), you can type the serial number into the manufacturers website. From there you can tell what you need.

Your computer likely requires either an AGP card or a PCI-Express. Regular PCI video cards are a thing of the distant past, unless you're using a very old computer.

PCI-E uses a smaller slot similar to AGP.

It is not backward compatible with standard PCI.
