Learn to act first. Seriously.

No decent agent will charge you anything, they make their money by taking a percentage of the money you make. So that gives them the incentive to find you work. BUT that means they'll only take you on IF you've got talent.

Any agency that takes you on without seeing whether you can act is not worth being in.

Having said that you can join "extras" agencies, you don't need much talent for that but you do need a wide selection of clothes and the ability to turn up on time and wait around for hours.

Anyway, assuming you have talent, you can get a list of agents from the book "Contacts" which is published by Spotlight ( http://www.spotlight.com/ ) it costs about £12 and lists all the UK agents. You might find a copy in the library.

Any agent will need to see your CV, showreel etc, and shouldn't charge you anything to sign-up. A legitimate agent will make money from their percentage of any paid work they find for you, so if they're looking for a fee up front then it usually means they are operating a scam, and won't actually find you anything. Check out www.thestage.co.uk for more help and details. Also, get in touch with Equity and (for extra work) BECTU. Good luck.

I have no idea where you can get one from in the UK, but I know that cost depends on the individual agents.
