I decided I'm going to do my project on Life during the Great Depression. Well the three main points I'm going to speak about is women's life, workers life and children's life.

I was wondering if someone can help me find information on the workers lifes and a little information on women's lives.

I found some but I need a little more information so I can start my project. I will except links or if you know any information please feel free to give it to me..

Also dont post if your going to say do your own project or bs me because I'm doing this project I just need a little help on it and if you dont mind helping then thank you!

Hey there,

I'm guessing that you're writing particularly on the American Great Depression rather than the Depression as a whole... with that assumption I suggest that you focus just on women and children. By doing that, it limits you to a much more manageable project. If you're talking about the workers it almost sounds like you're going to have a socialist slant (ergo focus on Russia and Germany in my opinion).

Moving on, for women/children in the US there are some great sources out there, one that comes to mindin particular is:
Binder, Frederick M. and Reimers, DAvid M., "The Way We Lived: Essays and Documents in American Social History" (3rd ed), 1996. Also look at pamphlets from left wing parties and women's associations - they will yield a whole lot of great information.

Also, there are some great topics within women + children
- rise of children's working rights
- move of women into the workforce
- vacating of women from the domestic sphere
- changes in American consumer advertising as a result of the above (e.g. women were now portrayed differently)
- increased politicalization of women during this era
- start of the women's movement (some claim this, but I trace it back to the French Revoltuion frankly and even in proto-rural societies)

Just dump any of those keywords into a google search, or in a library and I guarantee you you'll have more than enough information

The Grapes of Wrath by Steinbeck chronicaled the exact things you are writing about, looking up info on that might help point you in the right direction and can be something you include in your report. I will put some useful links below i foudn to help get you started.

And can i just say its refreshing for someone to be asking for help and not a thesis and a 200 word essay and a bibliography. Way to use this site appropriately.

I am old but not that old.I have heard that workers stood in fields and the street for hours and hours to hopefully get a few hours work. The women begged in the streets. Families lived in "tent cities" because they lost their home. Here is an interesting fact.
Do you know who opened the most soup kitchens in Chicago?
Answer :Al Cappone. Good luck with your report.
