Warm humidifiers can encourage bacteria/molds to grow. Cool humidifiers are preferred.

When i was young I had a very serious bronchial infection and the Dr said to use a cold mist humidifier. Apparently the warm mist would possibly create more problems. I found this:
Both types provide relief from dry indoor air and personal preference is really the deciding factor. Warm moisture humidifiers, however, allow for the addition of medication to ease congestion. Cool moisture humidifiers provide a cool, refreshing moisture to stale indoor air.

Best is warm because the water mist is sterile but not safe in a childs room because of a burn possibility. For adults and older children the BEST
Cool mist is cold and wet and unless you have dry heat or forced hot air it might not make you feel well

i was told a cool one is better then the warm one... i think the air gets more stuffy if you use the warm one... but i really couldnt give you the pros and cons of both... someone else will though ... good luck
